Bex has caused a serious accident and is therefore in prison. In order to rehabilitate the inmates, the prison offers them a dance class led by Ava. But Bex doesn't want to take part. However, she has no other choice and soon she feels drawn to Jay in particular and they realize that they have much more in common than this dance class. Hum lives in a refugee camp near Hamburg. He loves films and finances his visits to the cinema by selling lost properties from cinema visits in the refugee camp. One day he meets Anna and her friend Ida. At a dinner together in the shared flat of the two, they find out that they all share a love of music. Anna and Ida can sing great together and Hum shares the contact with his friends who play in a band. A timid and touching love story develops between Hum and Anna. Both are looking forward to the first performance of the band, in which Anna now sings. But shortly before the performance, Hum is to be deported. Neither his love for Anna and music nor his imagination can save him from the everyday life of a refugee.

Franz Schubert's "Winterreise" is considered the pinnacle of German art song. Hans Zender (1936 - 2019) arranged the cycle in 1993, and his version for tenor and small orchestra brings to light emotions that pulsate beneath the surface in Schubert. Similar to Hans Zender, the choreographer Christian Spuck is also concerned with a journey into the interior of the human being.

With Sounds of Dortmund, Dortmund Opera picks up where MusiCircus left off in the 2018/19 season. Once again, musical groups and all Dortmund residents were invited to become part of the performative sound collage. For one day, Dortmund was to be filled with music, noises, sounds, and performances. A poetic sound art work that focuses on the diversity of the city with its individual sounds.

Punk is not dead! Anyone who doesn't believe that punk is still alive and kicking in our times should check out the Stranglers' performance at Ground Control. The band released their 18th studio album Dark Matters in 2022. Dark Matters - an ode to darkness? The work was partly written with keyboardist Dave Greenfield, who died of Covid-19 in 2020. But even though it deals with themes such as grief, old age and politics, there is no need to fear gloomy music - on the contrary! The record captivates with the synth sounds and arpeggios typical of the Stranglers, which contributed to the success of their 1981 hit "Golden Brown" from the album La Folie. Their punk attitude is also still present. It is characteristic of the formation, which has been active from its beginnings in London pubs in 1974 to the current line-up with Jean-Jacques Burnel, Baz Warne and Jim Macauley.

At the Salzburg Festival 2021, the musicAeterna Orchestra conducted by Teodor Currentzis performed the last symphonies of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – No. 40 K. 550 and No. 41 K. 551 Jupiter. The two pinnacles of Mozart’s symphonic heritage are interconnected: the classic wrote symphonies No. 39–41 in one short period of just a few fruitful weeks in 1788. In the concert the two symphonies – the two sides of Mozart’s unfathomable genius – are joined by works that are close to them both in spirit and the time of creation: the orchestral Masonic Funeral Music in C minor, the recitative and aria of Donna Anna from the finale of the opera Don Giovanni and the chorus from the spiritual cantata Davide penitente created in 1785.

Violinist Michael Barenboim and cellist Kian Soltani are the soloists at this year's concert of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in Salzburg. The programme includes the Double Concerto for Violin and Violoncello in A minor op. 102 which was Johannes Brahms final orchestral work composed in 1887.

“And, 'twixt the shadows and frights of nocturnal splendors, My beloved will secretly be hiding. Say what you will, say what you may.” The sound of a distant whistle and theorbo calls a sleeping singer through the empty streets of Stuttgart in a midnight journey to the opera house. ‘dei notturni splendori’ is an experimental opera film made for the Staatsoper Stuttgart in the early months of the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown. Anderson Matthew captures the singer Helene Schneiderman through a midnight dream with a hand-cranked kino camera in an ecstatic 35mm photo roman, in search for her own performance of the Tarquinio Merula madrigal Folle é ben chi se crede from 1638.

"Frozen Jumper" begins in hit-and-run style with a pulsating textural noise. Flickering, nearly rectangular patterns join on the image plane, at first in black-and-white, bringing to mind the sprocket holes in celluloid film and, not least due to the lack of geometric precision, giving the impression of a pre-digital origin. As the soundtrack rattles on in a minimalistic way, the pattern’s twitchy dance is submerged in various warm hues such as yellow, pink, light green and light blue, which in a different rhythm and to a more agreeable music could be perceived as the signature of slightly retro psychedelia.

Documentary deals with the fascination that this man arouses worldwide. How could such a hype and cult develop around such a controversial artist? This feature-length documentary shows how people in Bayreuth live with Wagner's legacy from festival to festival, how enthusiastic Wagnerians all over the world celebrate their composer and what people have to say who deal intensively with his work or interpret it as active artists on stage.

In March 2020, 25 young musicians from the Bolivian Experimental Orchestra for Indigenous Instruments (OEIN) came to Germany to play concerts in Berlin and Dresden. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the concerts were cancelled. Then, as Bolivia closed its borders, the musicians found themselves stuck in the Music Academy in Rheinsberg/Brandenburg for almost three months. Together with their German colleagues in the ensembles PHØNIX16 and noiserkroiser, they face the crisis by developing several musical projects, a large part of which involves incorporating improvisation into contemporary music.
