World-renowned artist Sting performs in the beautiful surroundings of Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum amongst paintings by Rembrandt, Vermeer and Judith Leyster, and reflects on the works of the old masters. The 17-time Grammy Award winning artist performs a unique concert amongst masterpieces in the Gallery of Honour. Playing a rare 17th century guitar, Sting, managed by Martin Kierszenbaum/Cherrytree Music Company, reveals his love for the Old Masters and revels in the power of books and reading, while performing in the museum’s spectacular library. Accompanied by his longtime guitarist Dominic Miller, Sting reflects on the musical’s origins, shares stories from throughout his career, and performs beloved songs spanning his illustrious catalogue, including classics from his celebrated band, The Police. For the occasion, Sting plays a unique 17th-century guitar - originally crafted for the court of Louis XIV, the Sun King - generously loaned to the museum.

As the leader of the Il Gardellino ensemble, harpsichordist Alexander Grychtolik performs and conducts Bach’s “Passion Oratorio,” a project that had been abandoned by the cantor. Based on the libretto written by the poet Picander, the musician conducted extensive research to reconstruct the score, parts of which were later incorporated into the “St. Matthew Passion.”

AKIN examines the tension between collective synchronicity and the hidden inner reality of the individual. One protagonist describes her overwhelming feelings, while three other figures appear as aesthetic mirrors of her inner states. In a world that demands perfection and smooth functioning, everyday life continues like a mechanical system even when the inside has long overflowed. The bodies increasingly come under pressure until the structure discharges in synchronous, yet faulty movements. The encounter with an antagonist opens a moment of silent perception and raises the question of whose emotions are actually at work in the space. AKIN reveals a raw, deeply human choreography between adaptation and authentic expression.

Gounod's Faust at the Bavarian State Opera: Jonathan Tetelman plays Faust, the scholar who makes a pact with Mephistopheles (Kyle Ketelsen) before seducing Marguerite (Olga Kulchynska). The unfortunate woman descends into madness but ultimately achieves redemption. Lotte de Beer directs this production, which marks Nathalie Stutzmann's debut in Munich as conductor.

“Nureyev” is the award-winning production by Yuri Possokhov and Kirill Serebrennikov, which was controversial even at its 2017 premiere at the Bolshoi Theatre yet went on to become a huge hit with audiences. In 2023, it was removed from the repertoire for political reasons. The Staatsballett Berlin is presenting the production for the first time outside of Russia.

Rio Reiser would have been 75 years old. Before he became the “König von Deutschland”, he was the King of Kreuzberg - together with his band Ton Steine Scherben. In 1968, Rio moved to Berlin-Kreuzberg, at the time a blank spot on the city map, and made the area around Heinrichplatz his home. Together with R. P. S. Lanrue (1950 - 2024), Kai Sichtermann and Wolfgang Seidel, he founded Ton Steine Scherben and changed German rock music forever.

Every year ARTE organises a concert during the Berlin Film Festival. This year British indie band The kooks are invited to perform at the Columbia Theater, a converted cinema. They play old favourites and tracks from the seventh studio album, Never/Know.

Richard Bona was born in Cameroon. He was 10 years old when he built his first bass guitar out of a cardboard box and bicycle brake cables. Now based in New York, this collaborator of Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and Sting has won over audiences with his Afro-influenced music and his multilingual vocals. The Frankfurt Radio Big Band is conducted by Michael Philip Mossman.
