A good-for-nothing young man and his friend are involved in a woman's death. To escape Police and wanting a change he goes to the small country village he used to visit with his family. Yet his past will find him there.

Madrid, late 19th century. A wealthy woman is found murdered in her home and her maid seems to be the main suspect; but her statement further entangles the case.

In Madrid, Spain, at the end of the 19th century, the young and reckless Basilio seems to be the only person who perceives the spectral presence of Professor Robinsón de Mantua, who begs him to take care of his niece Inés, because she is in grave danger.

Madrid, Carnival Sunday. A night watchman finds the body of a woman, a rich and greedy moneylender who has apparently been murdered. The prime suspect is a watchmaker who owed her a lot of money.

Clara, determined to earn her living and be valued for herself, leaves his rich father's home, changes her name and takes a room. While copying paintings at El Prado Museum, she meets Juan, who is also hiding his identity, pursued under charge of murder.

Barcelona, early twentieth century. While a trio of masked burglars and their minions search for an ancient Moorish treasure that can only be located when the two parts of an ornamental chain are connected, Inspector Hernández and his faithful assistant Carlos follow the dreadful crime path they walk by. (Only the German cut of the three original Spanish episodes has survived.)

London, England, World War II. During a bombing, several people are trapped in the basement of a building where the air will run out in only ninety minutes.

Elena and Marcos live in a guesthouse. Their serious financial difficulties force them to resort to the help of Mrs. Jarque, an aunt of Elena who humiliates Marcos constantly. Marcos dreams that he kills Mrs. Jarque, and she appears dead.

In the Almenares family there is a story involving a mysterious woman and a pearl necklace that obsesses the young heir. He meets Vera, a Polish woman, and invites her and some relations to a hunting weekend, where the necklace disappears.

To save a travel agency in an endangered situation one of the employees has a brilliant idea, announcing a special travel with no defined destiny.

When wealthy banker David Henrry receives a disturbing letter, he turns to Tom Carter, an intrepid British lawyer and detective, for help. (Partially lost film.)
