Young people from different social classes feel the same deep sense of abandonment and dreams become the only company in an arid and incomprehensible world.

A camera attached to a microscope facilitates the trawling of spaces shaped by small dead things in tiny chambers between the naked eye and the mansions of molecules. Infinitely devisable focal planes denote the topography and tilt of an insect limb, large and tortuous as a conifer, or a torso brown as maple syrup, which repeatedly emerge and dissolve through the lens as if composed of vapor.

In 1798, the 28-year-old Napoleon Bonaparte realized his dream of reaching Egypt, where he intended to emulate the feat of his hero Alexander the Great, by making his own conquest of the country. Napoleon brought 40,000 soldiers with him to Egypt, as well as several artists, scholars and scientists to establish the Institut de l’Egypte. Their work and the work of the soldiers led to the discovery of the Rosetta stone and the birth of modern Egyptology.

This is a film that I had planed on making for more than two years before I began to shoot it. The Idea was to shoot an entire 400 ft. magazine of film from start to finish without stopping.

In 1893, a Norwegian artist created a masterpiece which became a defining image of the 20th Century. The Scream is a picture whose sense of anguish reveals much about our own lives, as well as the life of its creator. All his life, Edvard Munch suffered the consequences of a childhood surrounded by madness and death.

The career of Hieronymus Bosch is among the most mysterious of all the great artists of history. Though he was well-known by the time of his death in 1516, virtually nothing of his life is known today. His surviving works are also deeply enigmatic, highly symbolic images filled with the spirit of the Middle Ages. But the appeal of Bosch's work has long outlasted the late medieval age in which he lived. Though his art addressed the human follies of his own time, the satirical humor that he used can still be readily appreciated today. His intensely spiritual images of Christ and the Saints also continue to inspire many modern students, but it is Bosch's remarkable visions of the fantastic that are, undoubtedly, his greatest achievement.

In notdef./version one, virtual objects vigorously grow across a plane and into space from the center of the image for slightly longer than three minutes; nervously assembling and then falling away from one another, they overlap in glaringly bright colors before sinking back into the black matrix.
